Your insurance policy document is the main PDF your insurer sent you when you took out your cover — usually called the Policy Wording or Policy Booklet. This is the document that defines exactly what is and isn't covered.
Upload it here and Policy Wayfinder will read and index it, ready for analysis against any scenario you choose.
Free accounts can upload one policy. Paid accounts can upload and manage multiple policies — useful if your buildings and contents are on separate policies, or if you want to compare your current policy against a renewal quote.
Policy Wayfinder accepts PDF documents. Most insurers provide policy documents as PDFs — if yours is in another format, contact your insurer and ask for a PDF copy.

Policy Wayfinder is reading your document and identifying the key sections. This usually takes 10–20 seconds.
Processing…
Once your policy has been read, you'll be prompted to check your high-value items against your policy's single item limit — see Step 3.
Once Policy Wayfinder has finished reading your policy document, it automatically extracts your policy's single item limit — the threshold above which individual items need to be separately named on your policy schedule to be fully covered. Most standard home policies set this at £1,500–£2,500.
You'll then be prompted to quickly check your high-value items against your actual policy's limit — not a generic industry figure. The check is recognition-based: you'll see a set of common categories and tick the ones that apply to you. For each selected category, you add the item and its current replacement value. The whole check takes around two minutes for most people.
Why this matters
Research consistently shows that a significant share of UK households are underinsured, and much of that gap sits in high-value items that policyholders haven't declared individually. A £3,000 watch or a £4,000 engagement ring is only covered up to the single item limit — typically around £2,000 — if it hasn't been separately specified on the schedule. Most people don't know this until a claim is rejected or short-paid. Policy Wayfinder surfaces this risk before it becomes a problem.
The check covers eight common categories: jewellery, watches, electronics, bikes, musical instruments, art and collectibles, and inherited or gifted items. You only enter detail for the categories you select — there is no blank form to fill in.
Once items are entered, Policy Wayfinder produces a summary showing:
Items are saved against your property profile and used to personalise your coverage analyses. You can return to the Valuables check at any time from your dashboard to add new items, update values, or review what you've declared.
Things people commonly forget
The valuables check is for information only. Policy Wayfinder does not provide regulated financial advice. Coverage determinations are always subject to your insurer's assessment.

optional — but it makes your results more accurate
Your policy document sets out the general terms of your cover. But the specifics — your cover limits, any add-ons, endorsements, or exclusions that apply to your particular policy — are usually found in your Policy Schedule.
Adding your schedule and a few key details helps Policy Wayfinder give you more precise, personalised answers rather than general ones.
Your Policy Schedule
The one or two page document showing your specific cover levels, excess amounts, and any named exclusions. Usually sent with your policy documents or available in your insurer's online portal.
Cover limits
The maximum amounts your insurer will pay for different types of claim — buildings rebuild cost, contents total, single item limit, and so on.
Named exclusions or endorsements
Any specific conditions, exclusions, or add-ons that were applied to your policy — for example, a named excluded item, a higher excess for certain claim types, or an add-on for accidental damage or legal cover.

How this improves your results
Without schedule
"Your policy includes escape of water cover under Section 4. Standard excess amounts vary — check your policy schedule for the exact figure that applies to your policy."
With schedule (excess £250)
"Your policy includes escape of water cover under Section 4. Your excess for this type of claim is £250, meaning the first £250 of any repair costs would be met by you."
This is where you tell Policy Wayfinder what you want to analyse. Select one or more scenarios from our library — situations that come up regularly for homeowners and renters — or create your own by describing exactly what's happened or what you're worried might happen. Free and Wayfinder accounts can run up to seven scenarios per analysis.
There's no need to use insurance language. Just describe the situation as you would to a friend.
Selecting a scenario
Pre-built scenarios are divided into two groups. General scenarios cover situations that can arise at any time — escape of water, theft, storm damage, accidental damage, and more. These are available on all plans. Life stage scenarios are curated groups relevant to where you are in life — First Home, Young Children, Older & Adult Children, Empty Nesters, Senior Years. Life stage scenarios are available on the Subscription plan only.
Free accounts can select up to seven general scenarios per run. Wayfinder accounts have access to the full general scenario library, also with up to seven scenarios per run. Wayfinder Plus accounts have access to the full general library and all life stage scenario groups, with no per-run cap.
Creating your own scenario
Wayfinder accounts can create up to four custom scenarios in total. Wayfinder Plus accounts can create unlimited custom scenarios. Free accounts cannot create custom scenarios — a clear upgrade prompt is shown.
Common scenarios

Your scenario
"A pipe burst under the kitchen floor while we were on holiday for two weeks…"
Analysis
This scenario falls under Escape of Water (Section 4 of your policy). Your policy covers sudden and accidental damage caused by water leaking or escaping from a fixed pipe, tank, or appliance.
Holiday absence: Your policy does not exclude claims arising while the property is unoccupied for short holidays. The standard unoccupancy limit in your policy is 60 consecutive days — your two-week absence is well within this limit.
Ceiling damage in the room below: Also covered — damage caused by an insured event to other parts of the property is included under buildings cover, Section 2.

Limits & Excess
£250 — the first £250 of repair costs will be met by you.
Next steps
Contact your insurer to notify them of the damage and begin the claims process. Have your policy number to hand.
This analysis is for information only. It is not a claims decision. Your insurer makes the final determination on any claim.
Coverage positions
Every analysis returns one of three coverage positions. Here's what each one means.
Based on the policy sections relevant to your scenario, your policy appears to cover this situation. The analysis will explain which sections apply and any conditions or excess amounts that would apply to a claim.
Your policy covers some but not all aspects of your scenario. This might mean one part of the damage is covered but another isn't, or that cover applies but with significant conditions or limitations. The analysis will break down exactly what is and isn't covered and why.
Based on your policy wording, this scenario falls outside your cover — either because it's an excluded peril, it doesn't meet the policy conditions, or it falls under a specific exclusion. The analysis will identify the relevant exclusion or condition so you understand exactly why.
All three results are genuinely useful. Knowing you're not covered for something before it happens gives you the opportunity to add cover, adjust your policy, or simply make an informed decision about the risk. That's exactly what Policy Wayfinder is for.
